The pitfalls of being the only person at your office capable of handling the most important task

Posted on April 04, 2007 by Angela

Oh the joys of being at work at 11:00 p.m.! Currently, I’m just sending the newspapers to the printer. It’s not difficult but it’s extremely time consuming. These files are so huge, they take forever to send. It’s my job to sit here and wait until they are all uploaded to our printer. I don’t know what’s worse, being here alone at 11:00 p.m. or being so hungry. Remember, lunchtime was nine hours ago.

I really need to screw my head on, too, because I just nearly sent up a newspaper with last week’s date. Boy, would my face have been red.

Sometimes, when I’m in our printers FTP site, I always get the urge to look into one of the other newspaper’s folders and see what their papers look like, just for shits and giggles.

I can’t wait to get home and sleep. No, I can’t wait to go home and eat, then sleep. No, I can’t wait to get home, eat, hug my boyfriend, THEN sleep. No, no, I can’t wait to get home, eat, hug my boyfriend, find out who was kicked off American Idol, THEN sleep. :D

  1. Young lady, I have been in your shoes many times (except that I’m a man, have a wife instead of a boyfriend and absolutely hate American Idol).

You’ve made yourself TOO valuable, but look at this way: It’s great job security.

Very true, RT. I plan to use my value when I talk to my bosses about a raise.
