My fitness pal indeed

It’s a sad fact in the life of many people when they get their first desk job and a few months later, they wonder why their pants are much more tight. They find it more difficult to climb stairs and in some cases, they might notice they no longer need a belt. This sad affliction is called Deskjobitis and yes, I am not immune. Symptoms include a bulging belly, thighs encased in cellulite and a lack of energy. Extreme cases may even involve *gasp* double chins. The only known cure for Deskjobitis is *gasp* dieting and exercise. This thing called “dieting and exercise” may be overwhelming to begin, especially when prior to Deskjobitis, many sufferers were free to eat as they desired and spend copious amounts of time on the couch. Thankfully, myfitnesspal.com attempts to make the treatment for Deskjobitis smoother, easier and, dare I say, fun.

calorie counter

It’s free to register and upon registration, a user answers a few questions about height, weight, and goals and with its free calorie counter to help the user determine how to limit calories in order to meet their weight goals. Believe it or not, calorie counting with their counter. You can create your meal diary and, when you type in a food, it pops out the calorie content. I was slightly disheartened when I learned my morning coffee, loaded with sugar and cream, is nearly 500 calories but I’m taking baby steps here – nothing drastic.

In addition to the calorie counter, Myfitnesspal.com also has an exercise log, which I’m hoping won’t remain untouched for me, and most importantly a message board. I can’t tolerate the shame and cost of a Weight Watchers meeting.

I sometimes make light of my recent weight gain but it’s not something I’m happy about. Fortunately, there is a site like myfitnesspal that isn’t trying to sell me diet pills that won’t work, disgusting “diet bars”, or b.s. meetings. I can work on my weight loss discretely and at my own pace. I highly recommend this website and I plan on using it extensively over the next few months as I try to treat my Deskjobitis.

My job is killing me softly as well. As I see it, there’s only one way out. But I still need the health insurance.

    …For now…

When I got my first office job, I gained about 15 lbs. in the first six months! The girls in the office warned me about it – they called it the “Secretary Spread”. You get it when you go from a fairly active job/life to working in an office all day! At least you are doing something about it :)

I’m almost scared to say how much I’ve gained since starting here. I went from working as a waitress in a VERY LARGE restaurant 60 hours a week to sitting at a desk in a tiny office.

He’s just trying to blend in. Either way, I’ll be at training camp on Friday and I’ll have to let him no my displeasure with his fashion choices.

People are absolutely not made to sit at desks. I just go nuts sitting down too much, like the energy has nowhere to go.

  9. I have definitely put on a few pounds since afflicted with deskjobitis. I just wonder if I have enough time to fill out all my calories burned/ taken in etc. daily.

I have put on about 10 pounds since being at a desk. Hey #7, I actually use sparkpeople.com as well and it has helped me keep my weight gain in check.
