A twist on 8 random things
I was tagged again, this time by Dan at Cafe Leone. I’ve done this 8 random things thingamajig a few times and since I’m not one to constantly talk about myself ignore a tag, I’m changing it up this time to 8 Random Things About Me as a Child. I’ve been inspired after going through boxes of old photos. Here you will learn about the complete dweeb I was as a child.
1. Believe it or not, when I was 10 I started my own newspaper titled, “The Blue Room News.” My bedroom was blue so it seemed fitting. Wasn’t I creative?! Anyway, it was a weekly that was “published” every Friday night when my mom would let me stay up late. I’d watch the 11 o’clock news then write my stories and color the pictures. My sports section was kind of like the Boston Globe’s today – it always mocked the Patriots. Hell, it was the late 80s. I worked very hard on my paper but it only had one reader, my dad. Who knew I’d be making papers for real 15 years later.
2. At 7 years old, I started a series of children’s books about a girl named Marylou. They were mostly made out of construction paper and I illustrated them myself. They were literary wonders. I was really creative as a child. Too bad I killed off that part of my brain in high school.
3. I didn’t play with Barbies much like most little girls. My little sister had a habit of stealing my Barbies and ripping off their heads. She was a little weirdo. Instead, I opted for Legos, Strawberry Shortcake, and Care Bears. My Jem dolls fell into the Barbie category…
4. which reminds me, I got a Barbie and the Rockers Barbie for earning “Student of the Month” honors in first grade and my sister ripped that doll’s head off. Oh, I am so pissed.
5. Also in first grade, I peed my pants one afternoon at recess and when my mom came to get me, I cried hysterically, not because I peed my pants, but because I had left my brand new My Little Pony outside. Man, I was really concerned with material possessions as a kid. It was the 80s though, so I guess it was normal.
6. I was OBSESSED with New Kids on the Block. OBSESSED. My room was WALLPAPERED with NKOTB posters.
7. When I was 11 years old, I began religiously watching “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. I had a MAJOR crush on Wesley Crusher.
8. The first album I ever owned was “Tiffany” by.. uh.. Tiffany.
Did I just admit to peeing my pants?
until the NFL Draft!

Trekker!!! haha.
I use to watch TNG too. It came right after Superboy back then, those were the good old days haha
Hey Angela, we run in to your blog, very interesting life, and to tell you the truth, you sound a little scary girl, the type that will punch you in the face if she want to, excellent site, can’t wait for the next post . . .

Sergio
Thanks!
did your parents keep any issues of the Blue Room news?
My dad says he has them packed away somewhere but I think that’s bull. I think he accidentally threw them away when we moved out of my childhood house a few years back.
i had tiffany…and debbie gibson, sheila e, lisa lisa and the cult jam, the jets, and stacey q. yay for eighties chicks!
I had a Debbie Gibson album, too, and M.C. Hammer! I loved M.C. Hammer.
Haha! For a second there I thought you were talking about me! We probably would have been friends at 10!
We might have increased the readership of our publications that way!
I too was overly obsessed with the New Kids on the Block. If I ever see them on tv I will stop and watch. Grosses my kids out. LOL
