This is the only way I can explain the fall of my favorite American Idol contestant last night… the voters are just too young to truly appreciate the greatness of Michael Johns. His voice and style are apparently too mature for a generation that enjoys the likes of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers – a generation that was born with Britney Spears on top of the charts. There’s no other way I can explain this atrocious example of taste expressed by the millions of Idol voters.
I knew something was amiss when Brooke White (who hasn’t had a stable performance in weeks) was sent to the “safe” couch along with Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro. But Michael Johns’ departure is something I couldn’t envision. I thought for sure it would be Carly or Syesha. Both are incredibly talented but neither are very likeable and that’s what Idol’s all about, right?
Maybe I’m just bitter because Michael Johns was the last of “my kind of people” – born in the crazy decade that was the 70s. As I quickly approach 29-years myself, Michael Johns was an example that I’m not a complete old fart. Or maybe it was just his irresistible Aussie accent. Either way, my TV is lucky that there was a new episode of “The Office” on at 9 otherwise a remote control or two would have been hurled at the screen.
On the bright side, he will no longer be subjected to cheesy group numbers (until the tour, that is), soulless Ford commercials, and at the mercy of a pitiful-taste electorate.
until the NFL Draft!

Angela, I right there with you. Gonna miss him tons! Still got david cook though. I like his rock stylings.
Thank Heavens for David Cook. Part of what Simon calls his arrogance, I think is just that he’s so good, it’s like watching a seasoned pro perform.
Cook is the real deal. Win or no, he is getting a CD by next year. guaranteed!
