Things I witnessed during my commute 1

Posted on September 22, 2009 by Angela

It’s not even 8 a.m. and I’ve already had an interesting day. Things I’ve witnessed so far this morning:

  • Some dude brushing his teeth while driving. That’s a new one. I’ve heard of applying make-up, reading the newspaper, texting… but brushing your teeth? Where and, more importantly, how do you spit it out?
  • Some fuckface on the Orange Line sitting in the middle of the car. At first I thought he might have fallen over. Nope. He actually CHOSE to sit on the floor. And not only sit on the floor, sit on the floor in a packed car AND in front of the door. I thought some other dude was going to kick him when floor guy wouldn’t budge at a stop, thus blocking him from exiting. I wish he had.
  • A dead canary on the sidewalk in Kendall Square. Didn’t coal miners use canaries to signify poisonous air or something like that? Either way, how the heck does a dead one end up on a random sidewalk?

I wonder how my day will go…

evilAccording to my handy-dandy blog stats in my sidebar (see right), I know that this is the six hundred and sixty sixth blog post since I rebooted my blog. Yoowza! And I rebooted my blog in June (sixth month) of 2006. If I had done it on the sixth day, I’d be scared. Anyway, I figure I’ll just get this post out of the way because I really don’t want to write about something I love in post #666.

And it’s fitting, too, because last night I dreamt that I had to go back to work at the newspaper. Scary, I know. Surprisingly, I didn’t wake up screaming in a cold sweat.

Tom Brady lost a regular season game today. The last time he lost a regular season game was December 10, 2006. Wow. Things could be worse… the Detroit Lions haven’t won a game since December 23, 2006. WOW!

We have been spoiled rotten when it comes to Patriots’ victories. And when a loss comes – especially in a game that we wanted so badly – it hurts worse than your average team’s run-of-the-mill loss.

I think today’s loss to the Jets hit my dad much harder than me. I’m pretty cool with it, to be honest. And I think I should avoid any taunting from my office’s resident Bills fan because I made sure not to taunt last week. Of course, if he does taunt, then he’s just an asshole and bad karma will fall him. But I think that’s unlikely.

The Patriots downfall today? Not being able to capitalize on all their scoring opportunities in the first half. With the game still in their grasp, the Jets were able to come out into the second half and chill. It doesn’t help that the Patriots seem to be missing a true leader on defense. It was almost a given the Jerod Mayo was taking over the role but with him out, who will step in? I’d expect a little more out of Adalius Thomas and Ty Warren. C’mon guys. Lead!

Overall, I think a humbling loss like this one might prove beneficial. Maybe. :)

My new phone 1

after a month of being phoneless, I have now rejoined the 21st century. Good lord, am I happy to be back. As much as I hate the phone, being without one is worse.

Pats Pats Pats Pats 5

MeriweatherAt some point in the early second half, my dad said, “I don’t ever want to see these uniforms again!” That feeling changed in an instant, literally, when the Patriots fought back from an 11-point deficit to defeat the Buffalo Bills. And that was not luck, my Patriot-hating friends. That was a boneheaded decision by Leodis McKelvin to run out a touchback followed by a smart play by Brandon Meriweather to keep McKelvin’s knees off the ground while stripping the ball.

I’m also not convinced that the Patriots D was sucking like a sucky bunch of sucks like some other folks. I think the best Buffalo offensive scheme was its persistent no-huddle offense all. night. long. A body the size of Vince Wilfork’s should not be on the field for every down. It didn’t help when the Patriots’ top defensive playmaker, Mayo, went down either (Curse of the “Improper Bostonian” cover, perhaps?). And that’s not to detract from Trent Edwards efficient night. But the Patriots secondary looked pretty good last night. And the front didn’t look too bad until they were completely gassed by the no-huddle, as was clearly evident late in the fourth quarter when a slew of shockingly fresh bodies went out onto the field.

As for our beloved Tommy, he slowly got back into his groove, pass-by-pass. Laurence Maroney is another story… gawd. Even my patience is wearing thin.

But no thanks to the great comeback, I am now tragically sleep-deprived and will somehow have to endure the day while sleepwalking. I’m exhausted. Oh, and totally heartbroken over the loss of Patrick Swayze. Live on, Johnny Castle. *tear*
