Week in Review 0

To get caught up:

1. The Patriots loss to the Denver Broncos. For whatever reason, this loss didn’t sting even remotely as much as the Jets loss for multiple reasons. One, the Patriots always struggle against Denver ESPECIALLY in Denver. Two, it’s a Josh McDaniels-run team now. We all love Josh McDaniels and how can you not deep-down root for him knowing the turmoil he overcame in the preseason with Whiny McWhineface Jay Cutler throwing an epic temper tantrum and Brandon Marshall acting like he’s the next Jerry Rice. Three, any loss to the Jets burns a hole in my soul.

2. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Red Sox. It didn’t feel like “their year” since April and I think I’m still in the very small “Manny” camp.

3. Monday holidays rules! Who knew you could be paid to stay in PJs all day.

4. I’m loving my new commute to work. Since the coffee shop at my nearby train station closed, and because there isn’t a Dunkin Donuts within walking distance of my office (I know, right!), I’ve now devised the perfect morning commute to get my coffee. Instead of riding the Orange Line to Downtown Crossing, I disembark at North Station, visit the DD inside (the one next to McDonalds; which is AMAZING, by the way) and hop on the next EZ Ride destined for Kendall Square. In all, it takes me roughly ten extra minutes BUT I can get off the packed train sooner and can avoid Downtown Crossing. It’s win-win!

5. Speaking of North Station, what the Boston Metro and Boston Costume forced a newspaper hawker at North Station to do the other morning is just plain cruel. And by “do” I mean, making him wear a shiny gold lamé suit advertising Boston Costume while handing out newspapers. That’s just plain cruel.

6. For the first time in ten years, I have a boss worthy of celebrating on Boss’s Day. After enduring years of abuse from Mean Boss, my boss now is the epitome of a good boss. She doesn’t take her stress out on me, she mentors me and gives me the confidence to strive to be the best I can. Her criticism is always constructive and I am comfortable knowing that I can discuss any issue with her. In other words, my boss rules!

7. Happy 29th Birthday to my sister, Kristina!

Please shut up about “How we do it in Boston” already 4

I’m about to make a horribly shameful admission here on my website. Yes folks, I… watch… Oxygen’s… “Bad Girls Club.” Ah, it feels good to get that off my chest. Sure, I have probably killed off more brain cells in each hour I watch this show than in all eight of my 21+ years of barhopping but damn, after a stressful day of crappy job, the economy sucks, no football, so on and so forth, it’s nice to watch a bunch of vapid bimbos whine about who’s prettier and how much their boobs cost. Takes my mind of the miserable day-to-day grind, ya know?

The show is stupid and silly but there are moments when it becomes downright cringe-inducing and each and every one of those moments come whenever Whitney aka “Boston” opens her mouth with the phrase, “This is how we do it in Boston!”

Oh. My. God. Please. Shut. The. Hell. Up.

On tonight’s episode, Whitney and a fellow roommate beat up another helpless roommate. She then proclaimed, once again, that “this is how we do it in Boston.” Ugh.

I think I speak for all my sistahs when I say, no, that is NOT how we do it in Boston. Whitney most certainly does not speak for me.

To be fair, I’ve had my share of stupid girl fights, albeit I was 15-years-old at the time. But even at 15 I never fought with a girl who was so obviously weaker than me merely because she annoyed me. And, I would never announce that I “throw fists” after cameras for a national television show captured me pulling hair.

Also in tonight’s episode, Whitney stated that in Boston we don’t like Minnesota people. I’d like to publicly state that I love “Sota,” as K.G. affectionately calls it. Duluth, what what!!

Worst of all she’s from Lynnfield. Yes, THAT Lynnfield. LYNNFIELD?! I think the roughest neighborhood in Lynnfield is on the fifth hole at the golf course where all the Canadian Geese congregate. Most people I know from Lynnfield drive through my neighborhood with their windows rolled up and their car doors locked. I’m just saying. My mom lives in Lynnfield and one morning, my boyfriend and I were socioeconomically profiled in the local Dunkin Donuts. I kid not. It’s a funny story but I’ll save it for another post.

Thankfully, Whitney was thrown off the show and not a moment too soon because if I heard her spew “Boston” and “How We Do It” one more time, I was going to gouge my ear drums out with my knitting needles. Peace was restored and it will only take us a few months to live this embarrassment down. I’d love to see Whit Whit prance into my old bar in South Boston and start spouting off about “Boston”. Now, that would be entertainment.

Slow news day 1

Boston Police have released security camera footage of a shooting that took place at Revolution Bar on New Year’s Eve.

What does this guy think, he’s Scarface or something?

I got to hand it to the dude (doorman, maybe?) who jumped in front of the fleeing Escalade in hopes of stopping it. I mean, if the suspect would brazenly shoot someone in front of 20 people, who’s to say he wouldn’t just as easily run the guy over?

From BDPnews:
Suspect Description:
Name: Mario Mendez aka Pablo Mendez
Age: 33
Height: 5’8’’-5’10’’
Hair: Black
LSD: 2008 or 2009 black Cadillac Escalade

If anyone has information about the whereabouts of this individual, community members are encouraged to call A-1 detectives at 617-343-4248. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department stringently protects the identity of those wishing to remain anonymous.

In the words of John Walsh, Let’s get this scum of the earth off our streets!

Daniel Graham hates Boston :( 4

Posted on October 14, 2008 by Angela

8 billion years ago I subscribed to Sporting News and for some crazy reason, they keep sending it to me despite not having renewed the subscription for the last 7 billion years. Not that I’m complaining though… I like Sporting News, especially since its recent retooling.I’ve got all my old editions with Tom Brady as the “Sportsman of the Year” and all the years Boston was selected as the “Best Sports City of the Year.” You can imagine how excited I was Friday afternoon when my copy of SN was jammed through my apartment’s mail slot and I saw that Boston had once again received this prestigious honor. It would’ve been nice if Dan Shaughnessy hadn’t written the article but whatever. No complaints.

But then I read through the other 400 cities Sporting News ranked. A random assortment of cities were highlighted with famous figures writing a blurb about why their hometown is #1 and I noticed our old friend, Daniel Graham, former Patriot and current tight end for the Denver Broncos wrote about why Denver is the Best Sports City in America.

“I don’t like Boston,” he writes. “I hate the Celtics, and I hate the Red Sox. I really wasn’t too much into baseball, but they make you choose, you know? Red Sox or Yankees. So I was a Yankees fan.”

OUCH! I guess Vince Wilfork never invited him to a Celtics game.

Daniel Graham adds, “They weren’t selling out anything in the basketball arena, but all of a sudden the Celtics got some good players and they’re all basketball fans again.”

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN! Although, I can’t really argue that one. B.K.G. (Before Kevin Garnett) they really weren’t selling out. But then again, who wants to spend their hard-earned cash on a team with the most losses in the Eastern Conference? It was also depressing given the history of the team.

I just didn’t realize Graham hated us so much. Maybe he’s just bitter about all the times he dropped gimmie passes from Brady in the end zone? Who knows.

Angela’s brief thoughts on Red Auerbach 2

Posted on October 29, 2006 by Angela

Everyone, in these parts anyway, is now aware of the passing of Red Auerbach.

I’ve never been much of a basketball fan but growing up during the Larry Bird era, the Celtics were a big part of my childhood. To this day, I can still remember the Celtics’ starting five that my dad taught me when I was six (Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Danny Ainge, Dennis Johnson, and Kevin McHale).

I vaguely remember the first Celtics game I attended, at The Garden of course. I do, however, vividly remember how clearly you could see the players’ underpants through their white basketball shorts. I was a weird kid.

My only memories of Auerbach are of my dad discussing him and the Celtics. Red Auerbach is such an important part in Boston’s prolific sports history. He will be sorely missed.
