Week in Review 0

To get caught up:

1. The Patriots loss to the Denver Broncos. For whatever reason, this loss didn’t sting even remotely as much as the Jets loss for multiple reasons. One, the Patriots always struggle against Denver ESPECIALLY in Denver. Two, it’s a Josh McDaniels-run team now. We all love Josh McDaniels and how can you not deep-down root for him knowing the turmoil he overcame in the preseason with Whiny McWhineface Jay Cutler throwing an epic temper tantrum and Brandon Marshall acting like he’s the next Jerry Rice. Three, any loss to the Jets burns a hole in my soul.

2. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Red Sox. It didn’t feel like “their year” since April and I think I’m still in the very small “Manny” camp.

3. Monday holidays rules! Who knew you could be paid to stay in PJs all day.

4. I’m loving my new commute to work. Since the coffee shop at my nearby train station closed, and because there isn’t a Dunkin Donuts within walking distance of my office (I know, right!), I’ve now devised the perfect morning commute to get my coffee. Instead of riding the Orange Line to Downtown Crossing, I disembark at North Station, visit the DD inside (the one next to McDonalds; which is AMAZING, by the way) and hop on the next EZ Ride destined for Kendall Square. In all, it takes me roughly ten extra minutes BUT I can get off the packed train sooner and can avoid Downtown Crossing. It’s win-win!

5. Speaking of North Station, what the Boston Metro and Boston Costume forced a newspaper hawker at North Station to do the other morning is just plain cruel. And by “do” I mean, making him wear a shiny gold lamé suit advertising Boston Costume while handing out newspapers. That’s just plain cruel.

6. For the first time in ten years, I have a boss worthy of celebrating on Boss’s Day. After enduring years of abuse from Mean Boss, my boss now is the epitome of a good boss. She doesn’t take her stress out on me, she mentors me and gives me the confidence to strive to be the best I can. Her criticism is always constructive and I am comfortable knowing that I can discuss any issue with her. In other words, my boss rules!

7. Happy 29th Birthday to my sister, Kristina!

Things I witnessed during my commute 1

It’s not even 8 a.m. and I’ve already had an interesting day. Things I’ve witnessed so far this morning:

  • Some dude brushing his teeth while driving. That’s a new one. I’ve heard of applying make-up, reading the newspaper, texting… but brushing your teeth? Where and, more importantly, how do you spit it out?
  • Some fuckface on the Orange Line sitting in the middle of the car. At first I thought he might have fallen over. Nope. He actually CHOSE to sit on the floor. And not only sit on the floor, sit on the floor in a packed car AND in front of the door. I thought some other dude was going to kick him when floor guy wouldn’t budge at a stop, thus blocking him from exiting. I wish he had.
  • A dead canary on the sidewalk in Kendall Square. Didn’t coal miners use canaries to signify poisonous air or something like that? Either way, how the heck does a dead one end up on a random sidewalk?

I wonder how my day will go…

MBT-Ain’t Ridin’ the Red Line 0

Posted on July 16, 2009 by Angela

I have discovered the awesomeness that is Cambridge’s EZ Ride. Why did it take me nearly five weeks to discover this gem?! Best of all, it allows me to avoid my most dreaded stop along the MBTA – Downtown Crossing. Wait, wait, wait. Actually, the best part is that I don’t have to pay for it thanks to my totally awesome job. THAT’s the best part.

Yesterday, I affixed my “EZ Ride” sticker to my ID and thought I’d give it a whirl. 15 Minutes later, I was at North Station, bypassing a train switchover, 20 minutes of waiting in a station that smells like a dirty public bathroom, and three stops that would force me to be smooshed like a sardine in a steamy Orange Line car. It’s also good to know that the Red Line was delayed like a mofo yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday’s adventure was so successful, I’m going to attempt the outbound line this morning.
