NFL Sunday musings

Watching the Redskins-Cowboys came has taught me there are few things better than listening to 90,000 people chant, “You Suck!” But it’s getting a little annoying that they chant it after so much as a committed penalty.

Has anyone else noticed that the Heinz Field music guy plays Dropkick Murphy’s “Shipping Up to Boston”? I heard it today during the Steelers-Chargers game and I’ve noticed it before too. Of course, they don’t play the “I’m shipping up to Boston” part but I hope that guy realizes that is the quintessential Boston anthem.

The Giants might just be the best team in the NFL this year. Repeat?

I don’t think football-watching counts as a valid excuse for why I didn’t study at all today.

I can admit when I’m wrong

Matt CasselDear Matt Cassel,

I’m writing to say I am wholeheartedly sorry. A few weeks ago I whined about how badly I wanted you benched. In fact, in August I thought there was no way you’d even make the final roster. After consistent improvement over the last few weeks, I know I was wrong. Really wrong.

It’s funny because one of my mantras is “In Bill We Trust.” Call me a “homer” but I’d just about trust my life with Bill Belichick. EXCEPT, I thought he was wrong in keeping you. I know, I’m an idiot.

And I’m happy for you, not just because you’re playing for my team, but because 31 other teams are watching your rise. Quite a few of those teams are going to be needing the services of a quarterback (some more desperately than others) next season and I’m fairly certain they will pay a good chunk of change to find someone capable of leading their teams.

In my defense, it did take a few games for you to shake off the rust. And part of my resentment toward you was actually my sorrow at Tom’s season-ending injury.

Although it’s still early, I think your 400 yards passing, 62 yards rushing and three TDs should secure your second “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” award. Thank you.

Very Truly Yours,

P.S. I hope Tom didn’t re-injure himself last night jumping up and down after your TD pass to Randy with one second left on the clock. Then, I’ll be pissed. 😀

I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart.

I feel like I just watched a Patriots game and – BLAM! – tonight there’s another one. Is this what it’s like to be a baseball/hockey/basketball/some other sport that plays more than once a week fan? Pretty cool.

But tonight’s Patriots game is of CRITICAL importance because…
a) The victor takes the reigns of the top spot in the AFC East and

b) I hate Eric Mangini with the fire of a thousand suns and watching “Fredo” (HA HA!) pout on the sideline takes my mind off my own meager existence and

rat bastard

c) I’m skipping class for this game so the Patriots better damn well make it worth my time.

I may have to add this to my Joe Theismann tribute page. 😉

What the fucking fuck

Just when I get excited about the Patriots’ playoff chances, I wake up to learn Adalius Thomas broke his arm. Let’s see, the most important player on the defense (Harrison)… gone. The second most important player on the defense (Thomas)… gone. You’ve got to be kidding me!

I’ve jinxed you both with my stellar photography. And you, too. 🙁 I’m so sorry.

But the second story from yesterday’s Patriots-Bills game is the evolution of Matt Cassel. Matt, I’m so sorry for calling you, “teh suck,” and relentlessly chanting for Kevin O’Connell. Cassel has improved threefold since San Diego. It’s as if there was a moment a few weeks back when it just clicked. I’m becoming increasingly impressed with his improvement. He’s clearly no Tom Brady but, thankfully, he’s no Brooks Bollinger either.

And, I can’t think of anything more uplifting than the BenJarvus Green-Ellis story right now. With his mom in attendance, he had another CONSISTENT performance. I can’t predict the future but one thing’s for sure, he will NOT be going back to the practice squad.

Now that I have a concrete plan for sneaking out of class Thursday night, I can’t wait for the Patriots-Jets game. Go Pats!
